There is a great interest in using amplified fragment length polymorphism (AFLP) markers for assessing genetic diversity because they have a wide coverage of species genomes and consequently are more reliable and reproducible as compared to RAPD and ISSR markers. Many software programs for molecular population genetics studies based on dominant markers have been developed for personal computers. POPGENE, TFPGA, ARLEQUIN, HICKORY programs were chosen in order to obtain optimized parameters of genetic variability and population structure of Panax ginseng C.A. Meyer using dominant AFLP markers.
