Correlation of geologic events (tectonic, volcanic, and sedimentologic) with the changes in floral and spore and pollen assemblages has been performed on the sections of the best-studied Late Cenozoic basins: Amur-Zeya, Bureya, Suchan, and Razdolnoye. Along with the local events that took place within the bsins, three regional events have been recognized. The first regional event took place during the Hauterivian, when strong left-lateral strike-slip displacements began in southeatern Russia, along with the development of hiatuses, unconformities, and c onglomerate horizons. an important event in th elforal evolution of this period was the first appearance of angiosper, pollen. The next regional event took place in mid-Albian times and was characterized by intensive tectonic and volcanic activity, considerable climatic warming, and a change in the type of sedimentation. The rifting stage of basin evolution was follwed by slow subsidence, with red-bed sedimentation. Environmental instability led to a dramatic change in floral composition. During mid-Albian times, a short-term marine ingression into the basins presumably took place at the same time as the associated highstand in the lakes. The third regional event took place at the Cretaceous/Paleogene boundary, when a general uplift of the region resulted in an increase in erosin. No significant changes in the type of sedimentation ensued, but flora composition dramatically changed in the mid-Masstrichtian. These changes were probably due to the changes in climate, which in its turn was caused by not only regional but also global factors.
