For the first time, the variability of the mitochondrial DNA cytochrome b (cytb) gene fragment was analyzed in one of the two species of the endemic Asian grass lizard genus Takydromus living in the south of the Russian Far East, the Amur Grass Lizard. The obtained data point to the low level of nucleotide diversity (0.00905 ± 0.0009) of the species, which is inconsistent with the previously published data. The subdivision level of coastal population “Pri” from Korean “Kor” as well as Chinese “Hei” and “Lia” populations was found to be statistically significant. The suggestion on possible existence of the ancient refugium for the Amur Grass Lizard in the south of Sikhote-Alin was made.
