The genus Montescardia Amsel is redescribed. Montescardia tessulatellus (Zeller) andM. kurenzovi (Zagulajev) are recorded and redescribed from Japan, with figures of the male and female genitalia. Functional morphology of the male genitalia in M. tessulatellus, the type species of Montescardia, is studied for the first time. The terminology used in the description is clarified taking into account the features of the skeleto-muscular apparatus of the male genitalia and homologation of genital structures.
