Unique properties of biological materials synthesized by nature have always drawn the attention of researchers to their practical application. This article, prepared after the proceedings of an RAS Presidium meeting, presents the results of complex studies on the morphology and physicochemical characteristics of deep-sea glass sponges in the search for promising technologies and new nanostructured functional materials, including those for photonic devices and systems.
