As part of Siberia, the Russian Far East currently represents the world's primary resource of conifers, the biospheric significant of which will increase while tropical forests diminish. This region, especially its southern part, including the Primorye region, has a high level of biodiversity in several ecosystems and communities including forest, meadow and tundra. This chapter discusses the origin of biodiversity formation in the Russian Far East, more specifically in the Primorye, and suggests a more suitable approach for conservation of biodiversity for the near future.
