Fossil wood of the Engelhardioideae was found in Russia for the first time. A new species Engelhardioxylon mameticum sp. nov., from the Oligocene of the Esgichninvayam River basin (Mametchinskii Peninsula, Kamchatka) displays a set of anatomical characters typical of extant members of the subfamily Engelhardioideae (Juglandaceae). The ontogenetic variation of the wood anatomy over the radius of the E. mameticum stem is examined.
