This monograph contains the results of field research on the ecology and behavior of the Amur tiger - a rare subspecies threatened with extinction, and listed on the international (IUCN) and federal (Russian Federation) Endangered species lists. Within the central Sikhote-Alin Mountains in Primorye, tiger ecology was studied on the basis of extensive snow-tracking. The movements of tigers of different sexes and ages, their social structure, and the size and structure of their home ranges were described in detail for the first time. The effect of snow depth on tigers and other issues relating to its winter ecology are presented, as well as the behavior of tigers in encounters with humans. The second edition also includes new data on tiger track sizes, current status of tigers and their habitat in the study area and the article about A. G. Yudakov's last trip. This book is intended for ecologists, environmental protection specialists, wildlife managers and the general reading public.
