The problems of identifying the conservation units, natural interspecific hybridization and its role in evolution, adaptation, and conservation of genetic diversity are discussed. Breeding of species in captivity and their introduction into nature, heterozygosity as one of the main parameters of genetic health in populations is considered, as well as the problems of inbreeding depression and "bottle neck". The prospects of phylogenetic analysis of patogenes and advantages of noninvasive sampling of biological samples are covered. Examples of original genetic research of rare and endangered animal species are given.
