About

Federal Scientific Center of the East Asia Terrestrial Biodiversity is the largest research institution for biodiversity-related studies and activities in Russia. It was established on 30th December 2016 by uniting the oldest scientific organizations at the Russian Far East - Institute of Biology and Soil Science (est. 1962), V.K. Komarov Mountain-Taiga Station (est. 1932) and V.K. Komarov Ussuriisk State Nature Reserve (est. 1934).

Mission

Our mission: to assess the regional biodiversity at every level. Goals:

  • gaining new fundamental biological data, study on dynamics of terrestrial ecosystems at the Russian Far East and neighboring areas of Asia and Pacific;
  • long-term monitoring of natural ecosystems, prognosis of environmental situation in the region;
  • development of scientific basis for biodiversity conservation, its reproduction and sustainable management;
  • training of scholars and scientists with advanced degrees.
