Chromotype have been studied in 135 reed voles from 26 geographical areas in Transbaikal region, Primorie territory and Mongolia. The are 52 chromosomes in the karyotype of this species, of them two pairs are subtelo-, foue pairs are middle-sized submeta- and 19 pairs are acrocentrics, a large submetacentric X-chromsome and small acrocentric Y-chromosome, NFa=62. The comparision of the obtained data with literature ones (more than 10 voles from 3 areas were studied) revealed that karyotypes of all voles aere similar. Karyotypes were studied in voles of two subspecies out of six in M. fortis: M.f. michnoi (Transbaikal and North Mongolia) and M. f. pelliceus (Primorie territory).
