Badistrinus Motschulsky is a small subgenus of the ground beetle genus Pterostichus, with a complicated taxonomic history. Although recent taxonomic studies have improved the understanding of this subgenus, the findings have not been well synthesized. Based on the current phylogenetic hypotheses for Badistrinus and related subgenera, we support treating Omaseulus as a synonym of the subgenus Phonias. By reviewing bibliographic records and recent taxonomic treatments of Badistrinus, we provide an updated checklist with subgeneric and species diagnoses. Among the previously included taxa, P. procephalus is tentatively assigned to the subgenus Pledarus. We also redescribe the type species of Badistrinus, Pterostichus laticollis (Motschulsky), based on specimens newly identified from South Korea, representing its southernmost distribution record. Detailed morphological and ecological notes of P. laticollis are provided. Overall, this study improves the current understanding of the taxonomy of the subgenus Badistrinus.
