The digestion patterns of mitochondrial DNA (mtDNA) cleaved by 12 restriction endonucleases indicate that Kamchatka trout has diverged from Fraser, McClud, Eagle rainbow trout lake and from cutthroat trout by 0,86%; 1,51%; 2,75%, and 2,89%, respectively. Taking into consideration the levels of intra-and interspecific variation in Western trout and Pacific salmon mtDNA, Kamchatka trout and rainbow trout should be considered as synonyms.
