Ideally, the measure of central tendency, also known as the location parameter, is considered as a typical indicator of the sample (population), generalizing its distinctive properties, as a single number corresponding to the center of symmetry (median) or to the center of gravity (average values) of the empirical distribution. This mini-review discusses the limitations and examples of some measures of location usage in the description of quantitative hydrobiological materials.
