The report presents information on the discovery of naturalized plants of sea buckthorn (Hippophaë rhamnoides L.) on Sakhalin Island. Wild populations of sea buckthorn were identified in diverse, geographically distant locations, primarily inhabiting pioneer and unproductive ecotopes, specifically the steep rocky eroded slopes of coastal abrasive ledges (cliffs) and anthropogenic, unpaved rock disposal sites. The establishment of the wild populations followed spontaneous colonization from cultivated areas, notably private garden plots. We conclude, the island lacks conducive habitats to support an extensive proliferation of H. rhamnoides.
