The yellow-throated marten is an active and rather big animal. It is omnivorous with predominance of animal food. Among its food objects there are some species used by human beings, such as musk deer, squirrel, hazel grouse. It hunts animals inhabiting the same area. Opinions on the yellow-throated marten being blood-thirsty and trophycally specialised is based on single finds of big prey remains. Its food behaviour is connected with the seasonal dynamics of available food resources. The animal hides remains of prey in shelters, dugs it into the ground and snow, and it makes it difficult to study its nutrition and its role in biocenosis especially in summer.
