The article analyzes the impact of the main natural and anthropogenic factors on the ecological status of arable soils of the Russian Far East in the light of modern interpretation of the ecological functions of the soil and their role in maintaining the homeostasis of the pedosphere and the biosphere as a whole. Emphasis is placed on the agricultural practices of growing rice and other crops on the soils of Primorye and Amur region by Chinese tenants and its impact on fertility, as well as the ecological condition of the leased land.
