The features of development of soil and plant cover of different ages dump breeds of Pavlovsky coal mine were studied. The differences in the species composition and structure of plant communities on dump breeds are established. The stages of development of primary succession are revealed. The changes in the physicochemical parameters of the soil and the content of humus were investigated depending on the age of the dumps, composition breeds and the features of the relief. With the development of soil-forming processes and the accumulation of humus, there was a tendency to decrease the acidity of the dump breeds. In the soil absorbing complex, the content of Ca2+ and Mg2+ cations increased, and the content of plant nutrients increased. In the soil absorbing complex, the content of Ca2+ and Mg2+ cations increased, content of nutrients plant increased. The main differences in the development of natural vegetation and soil formation on clay and sandy loams were the duration of the existence of pioneer groups plants, the initial stage of soil formation and in the peculiarities of overgrowing by woody vegetation. Nature plant development on the clay dumps of the Northeast section took place on the meadow type, on sandy dumps on the Northern Depression section – on the forest type, which is associated with the type of adjacent plant formations and the composition of the rocks. The presence of flat areas on the slopes of sandy dump has a positive effect on the overgrowing of it. This impeded the development of water erosion.
