Euro-Siberian species Chelidonium majus L. (2n = 12) is widely distributed in European Russia and Siberia. To the east of Lake Baikal it is replaced by Ch.asiaticum (Hara) Krahulc., which differs by morphology, chromosome number (2n = 10) and has its own area of distribution. However, Ch. asiaticum was not accepted unanimously as independent species. The comparative study of the ecological ranges of Chelidonium majus L. and Ch. asiaticum (Hara) Krachulkova confirms the independence of both species on the basis of different reactions to the strengthening of the influence of the Pacific monsoon climatic conditions. The Chelidonium majus ecological range decreases from moderately continental East Europe to extremely continental regions of Siberia. The geographical distribution of Chelidonium majus reaches Baikal Siberia where the Pacific monsoon climate begins to manifest itself. On the contrary, the Ch. asiaticum ecological range becomes larger in the Pacific Coast. Both species can be found in Baikal Siberia, without "transitions" or natural hybrids, both are anthropophytes. We assume the ability of Ch. asiaticum to enlarge its secondary area to the west.
