The article analyzes the circumstances of the organization of regional bases of the USSR Academy of Sciences in the early 1930s. The stages of the formation of the Far Eastern Branch of the USSR Academy of Sciences are traced. The most significant causes of the suspension of the Branch in 1939 are shown. The ways of development of the FEB RAS at the present stage are reviewed.
