A biogeographic region with a peculiar species composition and located in the southern states of the United States is discussed. It is proposed that this region is a part of a possible Caribbean center of fungal biodiversity. Hypoxylon confertisilvae, H. ilicinum, H. meridionale, H. minicroceum, and H. rolingii are described as species new to science.
