The paper discusses some conceptual problems appeared in connection with so called combinative systems developed for a number of taxa discovering a high parallelism and combinatory of characters. Controversies relatively form of the system of live organisms are considered in the light of the discrimination between two meanings of such concepts as "genealogy" and "phylogeny", two aspects of every taxon (intension and extension), two steps in the procedure of classification (creation and testing of taxonomic hypotheses), and, correspondingly, two approaches (a priori and a posteriori) to a character weighting. The broader understanding of a character (as the unity of mutually exclusive states in different organisms) is also of importance for revision of fundamentals of the Natural System.
