The paper focuses on specific traits of the burozem formation in Rimsky-Korsakov Archipelago. The research shows that on the islands under study, typical burozems are most wide–spread under thin grass broad-leaved forests, and dark humus-illuvial burozems are most often found under thin oak forests with a well–developed grass cover and under grass-shrub associations. It has been found out that progressing anthropogenic transformation of the broadleaved forests intensifies geochemical effect of the sea on formation patterns of the burozems. Resultantly, the burozems are characterized by specific morphological structure, physical and chemical properties, and humus formation and humus accumulation patterns.
